Molly Brant

Koñwatsiãtsiaiéñni ( " The flower was a borrowed" ) or Mary ( Molly ) Brant (also Gonwatsijayennin, Degonwadonti, Tekonwatonti ) (* 1736 ();? † April 16, 1796 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada) was a Mohawk leader and the older sister of Joseph Brant. Both had great influence during the American Revolutionary War when British Loyalists.

Mary Brant was formless ("common -law marriage" ) with William Johnson, Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the Mohawk Valley in the colony of New York married. It is recognized to the disclosure of information to the British to advantage in the Battle of Oriskany and support the cause of the Loyalists, which forced them to flee from the Americans to the west of the Cayuga and finally to Canada. There they continued to play its role as leader of the female leaders of the Six Nations and made ​​sure that four of the six Haudenosaunee nations were loyal to the Kingdom of Great Britain. After the war she moved to Kingston ( Ontario), where she received a house and a large pension from the British government.
