Description

Vegetative characteristics

Monanthes muralis is reached a perennial, basal slightly woody, densely branched small shrub, the plant height 5-10 inches. The slender, winding drives are ascending or decumbent and often later suspended. They have a diameter of 2 to 5 millimeters. Their leaves form compact rosettes whose innermost leaves are soon spread. The obovate leaves are rounded or slightly pointed. The leaf blade is 6-10 mm long, 3-4 mm wide and about 2 millimeters thick. Their surface is usually in the lower part filled with some glandular hairs. Towards the peak, it is, especially along the leaf margins, conspicuously papillose.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence appears terminally from the center of the leaf rosette and is branched at its base. The six-to siebenzähligen flowers are on glandular - hairy pedicels 5-15 millimeters in length and reach a diameter of 3 to 5 millimeters. Your narrow elongated, pointed petals are 2.9 to 4.1 mm long and 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters wide. Along the Kronblattränder are usually glandular hairs that are shorter or equal to 0.3 mm. The Nektarschüppchen have a length of 1.2 to 1.7 millimeters, and are 1.4 to 2.1 mm wide. Your lamina is somewhat fan-shaped, trimmed, finely denticulate, nailed or basally tapered.

Distribution and systematics

Monanthes muralis is common in the Canary Islands El Hierro and La Palma at altitudes of 300 to 800 meters.

The first description as Petrophyes muralis by Joseph Dalton Hooker was published in 1872. Carl August Bolle put the type in 1859 in the genus Monanthes.
