The monastery Bonaval ( Bona vallis ) is a former Cistercian abbey and in the community Retiendas, Comarca Sierra Norte, in the north- west of the province of Guadalajara, Castile -La Mancha in Spain.

History

King Alfonso VIII of Castile gave 1164 ( and 1175 final ) the Cistercian Order of the valley, where the monastery is located. The settlement was made by the Duero Valbuena monastery. This Bonaval belonged to the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon. The monastery was founded to defend against a Muslim invasion had large estates. After the monastery of the Cistercian Congregation Castilian had joined, it lost its position as an independent abbey and in 1495 the monastery of Monte Sión in Toledo assumed as a priory. As such, it developed into a " retirement home " of the Order. In the period of Liberal government, it was abandoned in 1821 in favor of the parent company in Toledo, and fell into the sequence. Today it is in ruins.

Buildings and plant

From the Abbey parts of the three-aisled church with a three-sided closed main apse, two rectangular apses, parts of the right transept are obtained with a staircase turret and the einjochige south aisle and parts of the enclosure building.
