The monastery Valbuena (Santa María de Valbuena ) located within sight of the royal castle of Peñafiel is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Valbuena de Duero in the province of Valladolid, Castile-Leon in Spain, on the right bank of the Duero.

History

The monastery was founded in 1143 by Estefanía, the daughter of the Count of Urgell Ermengol V., donated and monastery Berdoues (Spanish Berdona ) in occupied France. It was thus one of the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon. At first Abbot Martin followed as the second Ebrardo. The monastery, which received various privileges shortly after its inception, was to 1430, the founding of the Cistercian Congregation of Klastilien, depending on Berdoues and thereafter from Poblet Monastery. In the 14th century, the decline began. In the monastery repeal under the government of Juan Álvarez Mendizábal the monastery was dissolved in 1835. The church then became a parish church. The monastery buildings were acquired by a Baron boiler, which they sold to Juan Pardo. The latter they farmed until 1950, when the Instituto Nacional de Colonización acquired the plant for municipal purposes. In 1967, the monastery buildings were purchased by the Archdiocese of Valladolid and left around 1990 Las Edades del Hombre of the Foundation.

Buildings and plant

Situated next to the river is the ruinous abbot's house from the 16th century.

The monastery was declared in 1931, the Monumento Nacional ( Bien de Interès Cultural ).
