Mönchengladbach–Düsseldorf railway

The railway line Mönchengladbach- Dusseldorf is a now 24 km long (at least) two-track and continuously provided with catenary railway main line of the Lower Rhine in North Rhine -Westphalia.

History

The Aachen- Düsseldorf- Neuss - Railway Company was formed to build a railway line from Aachen and Mönchengladbach Neuss to Dusseldorf.

As the Prussian military fixed Rheinbrücken basically faced adverse, the route of Gladbach to Dusseldorf top Kassel was built and approved on 16 December 1852. The passenger was a month later - on 17 January 1853 - added.

After completion of the route to Aachen part of the freight was taken on the entire route on 16 October 1854. At the same time the Rhine station was opened in Upper Kassel.

On the other side of the Rhine, then connection existed in the former railway station located there Rheinknie the Dusseldorf - Elberfeld Railway Company at its rail line to Elberfeld.

Current situation

In the course of setting up the S -Bahn line S 8, a part of the route was expanded. Between Dusseldorf Hbf and Neuss Hbf the S-Bahn line runs adjacent to the double track also double-track mainline.

Train services

The route is now used by the regional express lines Wupper -Express ( RE 4 ), Maas- Wupper -Express ( RE 13) and Nier -Express ( RE 10, Dusseldorf Hbf to branch Erft channel), the regional train Erft -Bahn (RB S 8 ( on the entire route ), S 11 and S 28 (both drive on 38 between Neuss and Dusseldorf ) and the S- Bahn line between Neuss and Dusseldorf ).

Planning

It is planned to set up a breakpoint Neuss Neuss city forest between the main station and the station Büttgen.
