Mondeville (Calvados)

Mondeville is a municipality with 9506 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the French region of Lower Normandy Calvados region. Monde Ville is located in the east and in the immediate vicinity of Caen.

History

Towards the end of the first millennium of history emerged the modern city Mondeville first documented as Amundivilla on. The name goes back to a designated as a rural villa property a Scandinavian church with Mr. Amund name from the Abbey of Fécamp, of June 15, 989 received this from Richard I., who was in Normandy at that time Duc.
