Montaigu Tournament

The tournament of Montaigu (French Tournoi de Montaigu ) is an international football tournament in the West France Montaigu community, which was originally founded in 1973 for club teams, but will be played for U-16 national teams also since 1976.

History

The tournament was invented in 1973 by the Dutchman André Van Den Brink, the president of FC Montaigu was at the time a unterklassigen French club. The first tournament was won by the Belgian club RSC Anderlecht, who won the final against Bayern Munich. Third place went to Eintracht Frankfurt. In 1976 the tournament was mixed with U-16 national teams. The French U-16 secured in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt the title. Since 1977, the tournament between club and U-16 teams will be held separately and found every year since then so instead, except in 1981, where only U-16 national teams contested the tournament. 1981 (then as FRG) and 2007 managed the German U-16 to win the tournament. France was the first country which successfully defended his title (1976, 1977). When the club tournament RSC Anderlecht managed to win the tournament three times in a row ( 1973-1975 ).
