Montancy

Montancy ( informally also called Montancy - Brémoncourt ) is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. The local authority and the school are located in the district Brémoncourt.

Geography

Montancy is located on 828 m, 7 km southwest of Porrentruy and about 24 km southeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village Montancy extends in the Jura, on a saddle at the height of Lomont north of the deep Doubstals, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​8.86 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southeastern part of the area is occupied by the Doubs Valley. The Doubs flows here between the Lomont and the heights of the Clos du Doubs to the west by a maximum of 500 meters wide, flat Talniederung. In Brémoncourt is a valley widening, in which the side stream Frénois empties into the Doubs. The valley is flanked on both sides by steep, wooded hillsides that are crisscrossed by various local rock bands. On the south side of the church floor extends to the cliffs of Le Tremblot (up to 750 m).

To the northwest, the municipality's area extends over the steep slope on the edge of the Dérable and the terrain terrace of the Montagnes de Glère to the level of Montancy. The northern boundary runs along the broad crest of Lomont with the heights of Gros Buisson (912 m) and Sur les Roches, on the 920 meters, the highest elevation of Montancy is achieved.

The municipality consists of the villages Montancy (828 m ) on the Lomont and Brémoncourt (419 m) ​​in the valley widening at the mouth of the creek Frénois in the Doubs and some single farms. Neighboring communities of Montancy are Burnevillers in the south, Glère in the west and the Swiss towns of Haute- Ajoie and Bressaucourt in the north and Clos du Doubs in the east.

History

In the Middle Ages Montancy belonged to the manor Montjoie. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 163 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montancy one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 249 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Montancy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some arable and fruit ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The community is located far away from the major thoroughfares. Both Brémoncourt ( on the road from Saint- Hippolyte Saint- Ursanne ) and Montancy ( on the road from Glère to Porrentruy ) have a border crossing into Switzerland.
