Monte Caseros, Corrientes

Monte Caseros is the capital of the department of Monte Caseros in Corrientes province in northeast Argentina. In the classification of municipalities in the province of Corrientes, the city belongs to the first category.

The city is located on the western shore of the Uruguay River across from Bella Unión in Uruguay. In the place 36 338 inhabitants living in an area of 2287 km ².

History

Monte Caseros was founded on October 5, 1829 on the banks of the Uruguay River to the rim ford (Paso de los Higos ). The then governor of Corrientes, Juan Gregorio Pujol, ordered the place to commemorate the Battle of Caseros, who was beaten to the northwest of present-day Buenos Aires on February 3, 1852, and led to the overthrow of the dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas, Monte Caseros to mention. The establishment of the department of Monte Caseros was created by division of the department of Curuzú Cuatiá.
