History

In 1974, Trevor W. Payne had founded in Montreal the Montreal Black Community Youth Choir. For the 75th anniversary of the Union United Church in Montreal this choir performed together with the gospel choir of the parish and soloists such as Oliver Jones. The gig had been suggested as a one-time action of Daisy Peterson Sweeney, sister of Oscar Peterson, and Reverend Frank Gabourel of the Union United Church. The joint choir was at that time the new name Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir.

The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir was due to the success of this performance exist and toured alongside performances in Montreal by Canada and the United States. Multiple led the choir tours to Europe, where the choir has collaborated with Klaus König. The repertoire includes traditional and contemporary gospel music addition, Gregorian chant, African music, modern jazz and oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach. Annual performances of the choir will be held in his hometown of Montreal.

Joint concerts were, among others, Celine Dion, Oliver Jones, Martine St. Clair, the New Kids on the Block, Foreigner, Salome Bey and Ray Charles. The choir performed at various festivals, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Berlin Jazz Festival and the Stratford Festival of Canada. In addition, the choir sang at state visits to Canada before Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II

Thirty years after the founding of an anniversary concert at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, Concordia University was held in February 2013.
