Montreal Shamrocks

The Montreal Shamrocks were a Canadian ice hockey team from Montreal, Quebec. The team played, among others, in the season 1910 in the National Hockey Association.

History

The ice hockey team, the Montreal Shamrocks were founded on 15 December 1886 by members of the Shamrock Lacrosse Club. From 1891 until its dissolution in 1898 the team played in the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada, where it was founded in 1895 merged with the League rival Montreal Crystals. In the following seven years, the team played in the succession League Canadian Amateur Hockey League. This time was the most successful in franchise history, as they each won the Stanley Cup in March 1899 and 1900. Also in the following years took the Shamrocks respectively in the highest Canadian league - in the 1905/06 season in the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey League and from 1905 to 1909 in the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association. In the 1909/10 season the Shamrocks first played in the Canadian Hockey Association, but after only a few matches played again stopped the operation of gambling, after which was founded in the same period National Hockey Association was more popular with viewers. Together with the reigning Stanley Cup champion Ottawa Senators, the Shamrocks were added later still during the 1910 season in the NHA. With the financial resources spent there, however, the Shamrocks could not keep up, so they were disbanded at the end of the season.
