Motu One ( polynesian also Papa Iti or Temiromiro ) is an atoll in the Society Islands located in the South Seas, and therefore part of French Polynesia. In some sources it is called Bellinghausen, in other Bellinghausen. This name dates back to Otto von Kotzebue, who named the atoll after the Baltic German explorer Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen.

The atoll consists of a slightly larger and five small islands with an area of ​​2.3 km ² together, enclosing a central lagoon. It is located about 550 km north- west of Tahiti and is now uninhabited.

Nature

The island is an important breeding and resting place for various species of birds and a nesting site for Green Sea Turtle ( the green turtle ) lay their eggs.
