Tahaa is an island that belongs to the group of the Society Islands in French Polynesia. Together with Huahine, Raiatea and Maupiti it counts geographically to the " Windward Islands " in the South Pacific and is located about 230 km northwest of Tahiti. Tahaa is located north of the neighboring island of Raiatea, together with which it is enclosed by a common coral reef.

On the 90 km ² island live 5,003 inhabitants (as of August 2007). The larger settlements are Patio, Hipu, Faaaha, Haamene, Vaitoare, Poutoru, Tiva and Tapuamu. The highest point is Mont Ohiri with a height of 590 m.
