Mount Cook (Saint Elias Mountains)

Mount Cook is a 4196 m high mountain in the Elias chain on the border of Alaska and the Canadian Yukon Territory. The summit is one of the vertices of the boundary line, which runs in this area in straight lines between the main peaks. On the Canadian side is the Kluane National Park, on the American of the Wrangell-St Elias National Park.

Mount Cook is located about 30 km southeast of Mount Augusta and 72 km north- west of Yakutat. Just 30 km south lies the Disenchantment Bay, an inlet of the Gulf of Alaska.

The first ascent took place in 1953. Was named the mountain in 1874 by H. Dall of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey by James Cook.

Peaks that lie on the boundary line of Alaska to British Columbia or the Yukon Territory, are known as " Boundary Peaks" ( German: Grenzgipfel ) numbered. Mount Cook is number 182
