Movement for Autonomies

The Movimento per le autonomy ( MpA, German movement for autonomy ), formerly Movimento per l' Autonomia, is an Italian party. Founded on April 30, 2005 by Raffaele Lombardo and some center-right members of the Unione dei Democratici Cristiani e di Centro Democratici (UDC ), its main distribution area is located in Sicily.

In the parliamentary elections in Italy 2008 MpA ran as a coalition partner of Popolo della Libertà and Lega Nord, scoring nationally 1.1% of the votes cast. Thus, the party is represented in the 16th legislative period with 8 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and two seats in the Senate.

The most important representative of the MpA is Raffaele Lombardo, the powerful president of the autonomous region of Sicily.

At a party congress in early 2009, the party changed its name to Movimento per le autonomy.

On 12 November 2010 the MpA announced on the government coalition with Berlusconi. Their only member of the government Giuseppe Reina handed on 15 November 2010 in his resignation.
