Moving Hearts

Moving Hearts is an Irish folk-rock band that was founded in 1981. It combines traditional Irish folk music with elements of rock and jazz.

Band History

The Moving Hearts were founded in 1981 by Dónal Lunny ( bouzouki, synthesizer and bodhrán ) and Christy Moore (vocals, guitar, and bodhrán ). Both had previously played with the band Planxty. Other members were Declan Sinnott ( electric guitar ), Keith Donald (saxophone), Eoghan O'Neill (bass guitar), Brian Calnan (drums, percussion) and Davy Spillane ( Uilleann Pipes ).

On their first two albums Moving Hearts and The Dark End of the Street joined the Moving Hearts rock -oriented music with politically oriented texts, for example the situation in Northern Ireland. The members of the band saw themselves as cooperative. So all receipts have been equally divided on the helper of the band. For the second album Calnan was replaced by Matt Kelleghan. 1982 Christy Moore left the Moving Hearts to start a solo career. He was replaced by singer Mick Hanly.

In addition to her studio work, the Moving Hearts played at numerous concerts and festivals, at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Lorient Festival in Brittany.

In 1983 the album Live Hearts. They also accompanied Van Morrison on two tracks of his album A Sense of Wonder. After Mick Hanly had left the group Moving Hearts continued her career as an instrumental band. Also on other positions, there was change. 1984 was the occupation as follows:

With this line was performed in 1984 for the time being last tour the band instead. 1985 was the instrumental album The Storm. Then the Moving Hearts disbanded, but gave 1986 and 1990 concerts again. 1990 had Flo McSweeney with as a singer.

2007 found the Moving Hearts back together and playing since then in the occupation of Dónal Lunny, Davy Spillane, Eoghan O'Neill, Keith Donald, Matt Kelleghan, Noel Eccles, Anto Drennan, Kevin Glackin ( Fiddle ) and Graham Henderson.

Stylistics

The Moving Hearts were after the second Irish band Horslips, the mixed folk and rock music. In particular, by the saxophone Keith Donald's music also contained elements of jazz. Especially in the album The Storm shows a trend toward sprawling, powerful and brilliantly presented pieces.
