Davy Spillane

Davy Spillane ( born 1959 in Dublin) is an Irish folk musician and composer. He mainly plays uilleann pipes.

Life

Spillane learned as a first language Irish. At twelve, he began to play the uilleann pipes, the Irish version of the bagpipes. With his father, he attended numerous festivals in Ireland. In the three years that followed, he played on sessions and met many prominent folk musicians know. At age 16 he gave his first concerts in the United Kingdom and in other European countries. In the movie The Traveller he played a vagrant. In 1978, the first of his music on a record, the compilation The Piper 's Rock. Since then, he has composed many of his pieces themselves, especially ballads. At the same time he attended the Irish-language school Coláiste Eoin.

In 1981 he founded, among others, with Christy Moore and Dónal Lunny, the folk-rock band Moving Hearts. The band played mainly self-composed pieces. In the 1985 released instrumental album The Storm Spillane several compositions are included. He then teamed up with the American musicians like Béla Fleck and Albert Lee, around 1986 recording the album Atlantic Bridge, which contained bluegrass and blues music. In 1988 Out of the Air by Davy Spillane of the band. In 1990, he released the albums Shadowhunter with Rory Gallagher and the fiddle player Kevin Glackin, 1991 appeared Pipedreams. Spillane subsequently moved to Liscannor in County Clare.

Davy Spillane played in the orchestra work, The Seville Suite of composer and producer Bill Whelan. Whelan was also the producer of the album East Wind, on the Spillane and Andy Irvine Folk Music from the Balkans with Irish folk mixed. 1995 composed Whelan Riverdance, a commercially successful dance show with solos by Spillane and other Irish musicians.

Spillane wrote numerous film scores, around 1992 for Wuthering Heights. He often played with other musicians, for example in 1996 with Mike Oldfield for his album Voyager. He has also appeared on numerous albums of Afro Celt Sound System with. After a period of training sets forth its Spillane Uilleann pipes themselves. 2000 he recorded his only album with traditionals, Forgotten Days, again Kevin Glacken was involved in the. In the same year he founded the record label Burrenstone, is laid in the jazz-oriented music.
