Mowag Puma

MOWAG Puma

The Radpanzer MOWAG PUMA is a 6x6 armored personnel of the Swiss company Mowag.

History and Development

Initially conceived as a family of vehicles with the types 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 versions and built in the 4x4 and 6x6, the concept of a vehicle family was with different weight classes as a basis. Especially at the Cougar family were the buoyancy, high payload, high maneuverability and operability in NBC contaminated area. The 6x6 Puma the wheels of the first and the third axis are deflected and permit a tight turning circle, the wheels of the middle axle are unguided. Behind the two rear wheels is in each case a ship's propeller. The motor is housed in the front. The grenadiers can leave the vehicle through a hinged door hatch in the roof behind the tower or a large glass door at the rear of the vehicle, this door is the vertical rear end.

The Puma provided important results for the Radpanzer MOWAG Shark 8x8. A prototype of the Puma, who took part in various trials in Switzerland and at presentations at the Gurnigel, in Brugg and the Oerlikon Buehrle factory premises Ochsenboden, is now in the military museum in Full. However, the Puma never went into batch production.
