The Trelleborg is a railway ferry the Swedish Stena Line, which is used in the King line between Sassnitz and Trelleborg.
History
In October 1979, the Swedish state-owned ferry company Statens Järnvägars Färjedrift (SJ ) ordered the construction of the ferry in order. At that time it was the largest train ferry in the world. Because of the critical situation of the Swedish shipyards the job was triggered earlier than originally planned.
In December 1981, the ferry went to test drive to Sassnitz, but had to be improved because of various problems. This lasted until May 1982.
Since June 1982, the Trelleborg is on track to the king line between Trelleborg and Sassnitz used, since 1998, she runs to the ferry port Sassnitz in the district Mukran.
In February 1993, there was a fire in the engine room, which could be extinguished by the crew. Due to machine problems the ferry was repaired in October 2005 on the Öresundsvarvet in Landskrona, the passenger area was extensively modernized in July 2006. In June 2007, the ferry in the port of Trelleborg aground, while a propeller was damaged. The repair was carried out again on the Öresundsvarvet in Landskrona.
On 27 March 2008, there was a bomb scare in Sassnitz ferry port. The numerous forces were quickly able to give clear: A measuring instrument had been installed without the knowledge of the captain of the ship.
Operator
The ferry was from the ferry of the Swedish State Railways ( Statens Järnvägars Färjedrift, from 1992 SweFerry ), and operated in order. From 1997, it belonged to the Scandlines AB, a subsidiary of the Swedish State Railways. This company was sold to Stena Line in 1999, but the ferry was continued in the colors of Scandlines in use. Since the end of 2012 she wears the color scheme of Stena Line.
Equipment
The Trelleborg has a railway deck with 5 tracks and a total track length of 680 meters, which is also used for road vehicles. On the car deck will find an additional 20 trucks and 15 cars place.
