Muharram

Muharram (Arabic محرم, DMG Muharram ) is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It comprises 30 days.

Since the Islamic calendar is calculated by lunar years and compared with the Gregorian calendar is shorter hike the Islamic months in the course of several decades the solar year.

In the first ten days of Muharram, the Shia commit their highest mourning festival, the Ashura rituals in which they commemorate the death of Imam Al -Husayn in the battle of Karbala.
