Mukdahan ( Thai มุกดาหาร ) is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Mukdahan Province Mukdahan and the. The Mukdahan province is located in the northeastern region of Thailand, Isan.

Geography

Mukdahan is located on the west bank of the Mekong River, opposite the belonging to Laos province Sawannakhet. The provincial capital is nearly 750 kilometers from the capital Bangkok.

The most important water resource of the province is the Mekong River.

In Mukdahan a ferry to Laos; at the local border crossing you can get a 2-week visa.

History

  • Yot Wat Khaeo Siwichai ( Thai: วัด ยอด แก้ว ศรี วิชัย ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) right on the Mekong river bank with beautiful murals.
  • Wat Sri Mongkon Tai ( Thai: วัด ศรี มงคล ใต้ ) - Temple in a peculiar mixed style ( Thai- Vietnamese- Chinese), which was built by Vietnamese refugees.
  • Phu Manorom ( Thai: ภู มโนรมย์ ) - mountain just outside of Mukdahan with a very nice view of the city and the Mekong River.
