Mülheim (Ruhr ) Hauptbahnhof is the most important transport hub in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Received its current name of the station in 1974 after the extension of the railway line in the course of setting up the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr.

The former contact station is located in the fork between the Ruhr routes of two of the largest former private railway companies, the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (short RhE ) and the Bergisch- Märkischen Railway Company (short BME).

History

The RhE built in 1866 on their line from Ruhr Osterath to Dortmund RhE the station " Mülheim RhE ". Just north adjacent to the existing station, built in 1867, the BME its own breakpoint " Mülheim- Eppinghofen BME " on their own, already existing since 1862 Ruhr distance of Witten and Dortmund to Oberhausen and Duisburg.

After the nationalization and merger of the two railway companies in the Prussian state railways both routes were not linked.

On 1 June 1888, the station only four years was first renamed " Mülheim ( Ruhr) ", then on August 11, 1892 then again in " Mülheim- Eppinghofen ". In the years 1905-1910 the Eppinghofer station has now been rebuilt with the underpass of Eppinghofer road in a common building for passengers recognizable between the tracks. The peaked roof of the building was destroyed in the Second World War and never rebuilt.

The operationally significant station Mülheim was still the 1862 built by the BME west mainline station " Mülheim ( Ruhr) BME " ( from 1892 " Mülheim ( Ruhr) " ), but which because of the greater distance to the center of the Mülheim population has not been adopted accordingly. Located near the industrial plants of the Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte large station building was demolished in 1975, the associated station now bears the name " Mülheim ( Ruhr) West".

With the electrification of the line between Cologne and Hamm in the 1950s, the holding of the long-distance trains to Eppinghofer station were - renamed on 22 May 1955 in " Mülheim ( Ruhr) city " - laid in 1974 with the opening of the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr the still valid name " Mülheim ( Ruhr) Hbf" received.

Current situation

Mülheim (Ruhr ) Hbf today at the former Bergisch- Märkischen train two platforms with two tracks, four tracks for entry and exit. The route of the former Rhenish Railway is currently shut down, the overhead lines were dismantled. In addition, all sidings at the station exits, as well as almost all points have been removed. Just a couple points between long-distance and suburban rail line in an easterly direction distinguishes the station operational by a breakpoint.

Recent renovations in 2010 and 2011, the main building was almost completely renovated and designed the new pedestrian tunnel and modernized the station forecourt.

Rail transport

In rail transport is Mülheim (Ruhr ) Hauptbahnhof stop several regional and S -Bahn lines:

Metro Station Mülheim Hauptbahnhof

Under the actual main train station is a light rail station. This is also designed four tracks with two platforms and is served by three rail lines from three transport companies. In operation, the metro station was on May 28th, 1977 as part of the commissioning of the rail line Essen- Mülheim. This sparked the tram route from Essen-Mülheim (lines 8 and 18). Later in the 1980s came the line 102 to the reached by the underground route of the Central Station a faster connection to the district Dümpten. The third and last added line came in the late 1990s, the city of Duisburg railway line 901, which previously ended at the stop Mülheim town center. The platforms for the lines 102 and 901 are low floor, the platform for the U18 line, however, is hochflurig. The lines U18 and 901 operate on standard gauge, the line 102 is passed on meter gauge. The common route portion of the lines 102 and 901 in a westerly direction is therefore expanded doppelspurig and separates immediately after leaving the ramp at the Duisburg road. There are connections to the neighboring cities of Duisburg and Essen.

Future

With the inclusion in the Rhine -Ruhr Express Program of the Deutsche Bahn Hauptbahnhof should also undergo a renovation of the tracks.
