Münchner Haus

The Munich on the Zugspitze mountain is a mountain hut of the Munich section of the DAV.

The cabin of Category 2 lies on the western summit of the Zugspitze at an altitude of 2959 m above sea level. NHN and is the highest refuge in the German Alps. Is managed by the third generation the Münchner Haus by Hans Jörg Barth, whose family since 1925, holds the management.

Access paths

The hut can be reached with the help of the cable cars from the Zugspitze, from Eibsee and Ehrwald in Austria. Within walking distance is the Münchner Haus via the usual ways up to the Zugspitze.

History

The foundation stone for the Munich house took place in 1894. The construction was very controversial and led to a rift within the DAV- section of Munich, the result of which was the establishment of the Section Bayerland. Three years later, the Alpine Club celebrated on September 19, 1897 opening. On July 19, 1900, the meteorological station was inaugurated with its distinctive tower. The first meteorologist on the Zugspitze was Josef Enzensperger, the 1900/1901 for the first time wintered alone.
