Munich–Herrsching railway

The railway line from Munich to Herrsching is a branch line from Munich -Pasing to Herrsching am Ammersee. It is operated by DB Netz AG and is integrated into the Munich S-Bahn. The railway line is electrified by Munich -Pasing to Wessling and double track over entire length.

History

Development to 1972

There was disagreement about the long route between Wessling and Mr. Ching. There were variations on Walchstadt, Schluifeld and stones stream. They decided on a route between the Wörthseer districts stones Bach and Auing with a railway station in stones stream. On 1 July 1903, the railway line from Munich to Herrsching was opened. S -Bahn

Already in 1959 began the first plans to rebuild the route for the S -Bahn operation. These plans were however not realized until the 1970s. On May 28 Finally in 1972 the Munich S-Bahn was opened and the line integrated into the S- Bahn network. From 1972, it was operated by the S5. In 1975, the passenger traffic was stopped on Freiham station due to low ridership. In order to reach the entire route a fixed 10 -minute intervals, the German Federal Railroad decided the doubling of the railway line in the second stage of the Munich S-Bahn. Construction began in 1981 and 1984, the second track between Freiham and Unterpfaffenhofen - Germering was opened after three years of construction. From 1985, the route to Wessling was twofold passable. The last section of Wessling to Mr. Ching is still only a single track.

In 1992, the station Unterpfaffenhofen - Germering Germering - Unterpfaffenhofen has been renamed. In the new timetable of 2009, the line designation was lifted S5, since the route is served by the S8.

12 June 2012 started because of significant new construction projects in Freiham the construction of a new S- Bahn stop. It is located in the center of the district, one kilometer east of the old, no longer in passenger -operated railway station Freiham. The breakpoint was put into operation on 14 September 2013.

Operation

The railway line from Munich to Herrsching is today served by the S -Bahn line 8 from Munich airport to Herrsching with electric railcars of Class 423. In winter there until Weßling a 20 -minute intervals and to Herrsching a 20/40-Minuten-Takt. In summer, the trains run on the entire route in 20 -minute intervals. In rush hour trains run from Munich East amplifier to Germering - Unterpfaffenhofen and Wessling in 20 -minute intervals, which is produced in this section, an 10 -minute intervals.

Freight transport does not take place in the outdoor area, the course to the corresponding track facilities at the stations and Wessling Gilching - Argelsried are no longer available. The siding on the Dornier plant and airfield Oberpfaffenhofen has been interrupted since 2006.
