Central Europe Pipeline System

The Central Europe Pipeline System (CEPS ) is the largest of the ten pipeline systems of NATO. It backs up with the Northern Europe Pipeline System ( NEPS ) the fuel supply to the NATO (NATO Pipeline System, NPS) in Central Europe. In Germany it combines essentially air bases in West Germany, among others, in Büchel, Fürstenfeldbruck, Ramstein, Spangdahlem. The course of the pipeline can be established to aboveground, recognize red and white or orange and white striped poles that are within sight or if, for example, a road or a stream will pass under.

History

The CEPS had been published since the 1950s by the Allies in Central Europe to ensure the military fuel supply. The supply was managed by the state-owned industrial management company ( IVG), whose daughter transmission operating company ( FBG) was responsible for the pipelines, while the other daughter United Tank Farm and Transport Equipment GmbH (VTG ) presented the tank cars for railway transport. Only the FBG has been preserved as a State-owned company and is now responsible for transport and storage of the fuels. The headquarters are located in Bonn-Bad Godesberg with the home office and the district administrations in Xanten (BV -Nord) and Idar -Oberstein (BV - South). The successor to the IVG, the private IVG Immobilien, operates through its subsidiary IVG Logistik GmbH more storage tanks that are connected directly or indirectly to CEPS. At the CEPS are in Germany NATO fuel depot in or at Leek Home Rottingen ( Aalen ), Altenrath, Main Hausen ( Aschaffenburg ), Bell Home, Wolsfeld ( Bitburg ), Boxberg, Bramsche, Wonsheims ( Fürfeld ) Hademstorf (testicular Hagen), scorn - Bollbrüg, Subgroup Bach Obergruppenbach ( Heilbronn), Huttenheim, cork ( Kehl), Soft ring ( Neuburg an der Donau NATO), Littel (Oldenburg ), Pfungstadt Bodelshausen (Tübingen), Wuerselen and Walshausen (Zweibrücken ) and national tank farm in Gustav castle, Honau Krailling ( Unterpfaffenhofen ), Oberhausen ( Neuburg an der Donau IVG) and Speyer connected.

1989 ran from the approval of the Tübingen between Kehl and running, about 100 kilometers long section of CEPS. In order to obtain approval for the resumption of the operation of this section, the pipeline had to be completely re-laid. On 13 May 2006, the newly built section was passed after four years of construction. On 21 October 2008, the last 80 km long section of the CEPS of eels was completed to Leipheim.

Attacks

On December 11, 1984 terrorists perpetrated the Belgian Cellules Communistes Combat Tantes several attacks on the pipeline network. On May 4, 1985, well-known " illegal militants", supporters of the Red Army Faction (RAF ), a bomb attack on the NATO pipeline at Ehringhausen and on May 10, 1985 again to a stop at Badbergen. On September 23, 1985, a bomb attack perpetrated on a CEPS - pipeline to Limburg an der Lahn, which expired more than 10,000 liters. The attack was attributed to the RAF. On November 8, 1985 probably tried sympathizers of the RAF, to perpetrate a bomb attack on NATO pipeline in GER - Baal.

Civilian supply

When capacity is available after covering the military needs the FBG takes over the management of their pipeline networks also transport and storage of flight and ground fuels for civilian customers, for example, the supply of German civil airports with kerosene or the supply of aviation fuel from German refinery production. As of 2009 go around 90 percent of the transported fuel to civilian customers. Largest civilian customers is the Frankfurt airport.
