Muscat Rouge à Petits Grains

Mutation of Yellow Muscat

Red Moscato is a white grape variety with strong nutmeg bouquet, which originated as a mutation from the Yellow Muscatel. The berry is medium in size and of a reddish color. In addition to the berry color all the other properties of the two varieties are identical.

In Germany it has been admitted in all growing areas, but could not prevail. Small stocks are also in Austria, France (316 acres, as of 2007, ) and Greece known. In bad years, the acid is too meaty and the bouquet very intrusive. In such cases, the wine is ideal for blending with Riesling, Sylvaner or Pinot Blanc.

In general, the wine is light and is characterized by a strong nutmeg bouquet. The varietal is also very suitable as a table grape.
