Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, Uzhhorod

The museum of folk architecture and life in Transcarpathia (Ukrainian Музей народної архітектури та побуту Прикарпаття ) is an open air museum of folk architecture of the Carpathians in the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod.

The Museum

The museum extends over 5.5 hectares, was founded in 1965 and is open to the public since June 1970. He has 30 historic buildings dating from the Transcarpathian Oblast. The museum displays examples of villages of different ethnic groups from the lowlands ( Dolynjan [Note 1], Romanians, Hungarians ) and the highlands ( Boyko and Hutsul ). The museum has seven farms, six apartment buildings, a school, a blacksmith shop, a mill, a tavern and more than 14,000 objects. The center of the museum is St. Michael's Church from the 16th century with its onion roofs and the onion dome.

In the vicinity of the museum is the former castle Uzhgorod.
