Museum of Man and Nature

The Museum of Man and Nature is a modern natural history museum in the northern part of Castle Nymphenburg in Munich. It is a museum of the National Natural Science Collections in Bavaria. On 2,500 m², the formation of the solar system, Earth's history and the evolution of life, but also illustrated the anatomy and human biology, nutrition and environmental issues and the relationship of man to nature. Especially for children there is the department " Playful Natural History ".

The museum also groomed the brown bear JJ1 has been issued since early April 2008, like its predecessor, which killed 170 years ago last brown bear in Bavaria.

History

Predecessor of 1990 opened the museum were destroyed by the 1944 bombing of natural history exhibition rooms in the Old Academy, the former college building of the Jesuit order in Neuhauser Straße in Munich. In 1967, the National Natural Science collections were planning a modern museum of Natural History in Munich. The plan of 120 million DM expensive museum building in the Southern Oberwiesenfeld failed in 1983. 1984, there was the possibility of setting up a museum in the north wing of the castle Nymphenburg. In 1990, the Museum of Man and Nature was opened by Max Streibl.
