Muskoka Lakes

Muskoka Lakes [ ˌ məs koʊ̯kəleɪ̯ks ] is a town in the Muskoka District Municipality of Ontario, Canada and has about 6000 inhabitants.

It was founded in 1971 by the merger of several smaller communities, namely Cardwell, Watts, the composite community Medora and Wood, the town of Bala ( Ontario's cranberry capital ), Port Carling and Windermere parts of the former municipality of Monck. Office of the Administrator, Port Carling.

The area is criss-crossed by lakes and forests. The floor, the Canadian Shield (Canadian Shield) is rather rocky and not very suitable for agriculture. Therefore, the timber industry used to be very well represented. Today, tourism is the main source of income. Especially in the town of Bala (Ontario ) one finds huge cranberry bogs, and cultures. There you can find information on tours through the cultivation and harvesting.

The largest lake in the district is Lake Muskoka.
