Mustafa Bumin

Mustafa Bumin ( born May 26, 1940 at district Mucur / Kırşehir Province) is a Turkish lawyer and from 2000 to 2005, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court.

Career

Albumin graduated in 1963 graduated from the law faculty of the University of Ankara and in 1985 appointed a member of the State Council. Between 1989 and 1992 he was a regular member of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors.

On November 2, 1992, he was appointed a full member of the Constitutional Court in 1998 as President of the Court of Jurisdictional Disputes and on 31 May 2000 as President of the Constitutional Court. This post he held until 26 June 2005.

Importance

Albumin was a staunch opponent of lifting the headscarf ban at Turkish universities and advocated that local Kurdish could be said, since this is not violations against the Constitution. However, it took the same time by prohibiting the Halkin Demokrasi Partisi ( HADEP ) a restrictive line on Kurdish attempts to political organization.

Albumin was thus both defenders of the secular state, as well as advocate a cautious opening towards the Kurds. He was mainly involved also in the process of adaptation Turkish legislation on EU directives, as well as in closer cooperation between German and Turkish dishes.
