The Magellan Star is a moving under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda container ship. The ship by the Hamburg Quadrant Bereederungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG was bereedert (the " shipping company shipping DS " part since 2000 ) which belongs to Dr. Peters Group, headquartered in Dortmund.

History

The ship was from 2000 to 2002 under the hull number 1195 as the lead ship of the Sietas type 169 on the JJ Sietas KG shipyard built GmbH & Co.. The keel-laying ceremony took place on 28 March 2002 on 5 December 2000, the launching. The completion of the ship in May 2002.

The ship was financed through the fund set up by HCI HCI ship ship Fund I.

The ship arrived on 11 May 2002 as Grace Church Star in driving. It was sold by the Maritime Fund in 2005.

Pirate attack off the coast of Somalia, September 2010

Somali pirates hijacked the ship on the morning of 8 September 2010 ( 13 ° S, 50 ° E - 13.38333333333349.966666666667 ). The Magellan Star was with a cargo of anchor chains Bilbao to Singapore go.

The crew of the ship under the Polish captain consisted of six Filipinos, two Russians, two Ukrainians, and Bulgarians. During the hijacking, the pirates destroyed the interior, the control system and other parts of the ship. Thus the ship was no longer fully seaworthy after the attack. Accompanied by an American warship drove the Magellan Star to overhaul to Dubai.
