The Swanland was a coaster, which was built as Carebeka IX in 1977 at Scheepswerf " Friesland " in Lemsterland - Lemmer, Netherlands and operated 2011 by the Torbulk based in Grimsby, UK. The ship sank on 27 November 2011, 3,000 tons of sandstone on board during a storm in the Irish Sea off the coast of the Welsh island of Anglesey.

Downfall

The Swanland was taken on November 27, 2011 by an unusually high for the North Atlantic wave. After the freighter was holed and penetrated water, put the eight -man crew at 2.00 clock local time an emergency call. Two Russian crew members were pulled from the helicopter rescue squadron of the British Royal Air Force in Wales Anglesey from the liferaft by winch into the helicopter. A sailor could not be saved. Five crew members, among whom, the 44 -year-old captain of the Swanland Yuri Shmelev, were initially missing. Co-pilot of the rescue helicopter was " Flight Lieutenant Wales " aka Prince William.
