Myohyang-san

Pohyon temple Myohyang

The Myohyang, also Myohyang -san ( "Mountain of mysterious scents " ), is a mountain range in northeastern North Korea, on the border between the provinces P'yŏngan - pukto and Chagang -do. Its highest point is the summit Piro -bong, which is at an altitude of 1,909 m after the Paektu is the second highest mountain in North Korea.

The mountain was formerly regarded as sacred and associated with the Dangun myth. It hosts the Pohyon Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in North Korea, several hermitages as well as the so-called Friendship Exhibition, an exhibition of state gifts for the North Korean dictator Kim Il-sung and his son and successor Kim Jong- il.
