Myrskylä

Myrskylä [ Myrskylä ] ( swedish Mörskom ) is a municipality in the south of Finland with 1995 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located in the countryside Uusimaa ( until 31 December 2010 in the countryside Eastern Uusimaa ) about 30 km north of Porvoo, 75 km northeast of the capital Helsinki. 11 % of residents are Finland Sweden, officially the municipality is bilingual with Finnish as majority and Swedish as a minority language.

In addition to the center of the municipality includes the villages Hallila, Hyövinkylä, Jaakkola, Kankkila, Koukjärvi, Kreivilä, Kylmäsuo, Muttila, Myllykylä, Paavola, Pakila and Sopajärvi.

The municipality consists Myrskylä since 1636, when she was released from the neighboring community Pernå.

Myrskylä is the birthplace of the long distance runner and four-time Olympic gold medal winner Lasse Virén. Virén later became a Member of Parliament and is still living in Myrskylä.
