N'Dounga

Region

N'Dounga (also: Dounga ) is a rural municipality in the department of co-location in Niger.

Geography

N'Dounga located in the southern Sahel, on the Niger River. The neighboring municipalities are Hamdallaye in the north, Kouré in the northeast, Kollo in the southeast, the southwest and Youri Liboré in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 12 administrative villages and 14 hamlets. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Fandobon (also: N'Dounga Fondobon ).

The Forêt de classée Guesselbodi is a 5100 acre protected nature woodland area in the municipality of N'Dounga. The protected status was made in 1948.

History

The Zarma of N'Dounga went in the 19th century regularly on raids in the region include Bonkoukou, karma and Sakoïra. They also tried, unsuccessfully, to attack Dosso.

The rural community N'Dounga was founded in 2002 at a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton N'Dounga forth.

Population

At the 2001 census N'Dounga had 14,862 inhabitants. For the year 2010 20.754 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture.
