Bitinkodji is a rural municipality in the department of co-location in Niger.

Geography

Bitinkodji lies on the River Niger in the Sahel and is a southwestern suburb of the Nigerien capital Niamey. The other neighboring communities Bitinkodjis are Karma in the north, Liboré and Youri in the east, Ouro Guélédjo and Say in the south and Namaro and Torodi in the West. The municipality is divided into 17 administrative villages and 25 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Saga Fondo.

History

Bitinkodji was as part of a nationwide administrative reform in 2002 - as the adjacent rural community Youri - extracted from the Canton Say and established as an independent country community. Since then Bitinkodji heard no more to Say Department, but the Department Kollo.

Population

At the 2001 census Bitinkodji had 14,506 inhabitants. For the year 2010 20.262 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

Riverside wet rice is cultivated. The rest of the municipality is located in a zone where rainfed agriculture is the dominant form of employment. By Bitinkodji National Road 6, which here is part of the international highway Dakar - N'Djamena - Highway runs.
