Youri, Niger

Youri is a rural municipality in the department of co-location in Niger.

Geography

Youri lies on the River Niger in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Liboré and N'Dounga in the north, the east Kollo, Say to the south and Bitinkodji in the West. The municipality is divided into 23 administrative villages, a traditional village and hamlet of eleven. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Youri Kourtéré.

History

Youri was as part of a nationwide administrative reform in 2002 - as the adjacent rural community Bitinkodji - extracted from the Canton Say and established as an independent country community. Since then Youri belongs no longer to the Department Say, but the Department Kollo.

Population

At the 2001 census Youri had 29,577 inhabitants. For the year 2010 41.313 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture. By Youri National Road 27, which connects the Nigerien capital Niamey to the border with Burkina Faso at Tamou runs.
