N8 road (South Africa)

The National Route 8 (short N8) is a South African national road that runs between Groblershoop and the border at Maseru in Lesotho.

Route

In the West, the N8 starts in Groblershoop, a small town on the N10. Upon leaving the city boundaries, the N8 the Orange crossed on a 1.1 -kilometer-long bridge and then runs eastwards through a very sparsely populated area with an arid climate. She touched the places Volop, Griekwastad, Campbell and Schmidtsdrif. On these sections, there are signal-controlled areas with waiting times of about 10 minutes. Further eastward reached the N8 Kimberley, the capital of the Northern Cape Province. Here cross the N12 and several railway lines.

From Kimberley the N8 is expanded as a highway, which runs southwest through a only slightly populated area with lots of salt pans. In parallel, extending a railway line, which also reached Bloemfontein. In this city the N8 crosses the highway close to town developed as a section of the N1. Furthermore, there is a branch of the leading- N6 here.

From Bloemfontein from the N8 runs further to the east. They will continue flanked by a railway line. In its course it opens with side branches the villages Sannaspos, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu and Westminster. Before the Lesotho border she meets Ladybrand and finally on the Maseru Bridge border crossing. After crossing the river Caledon they reached Maseru.

The N8 has greatly developed sections, both with the character of a country road and with the cross-sectional profile of South African highways. On the section of Groblershoop to Kimberley it is single track with passing places periodic. On the N8, there are no toll booths.
