Nadia district

Nadia ( Bengali: নদীয়া জেলা, Nadiya Jela ) is a district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It extends over an area of ​​3927 km ² and has 4.604 million inhabitants ( 2001 census ). The district capital is Krishnanagar.

Nadia is bordered by the West Bengal Murshidabad districts in the North, Bardhaman and Hooghly in the west, and North 24 Parganas in the south. To the east is the border with Bangladesh.

Politically Nadia is divided into four sub-divisions, Ranaghat, Krishnanagar, Kalyani and Tehatta. These are divided into a total of 13 taluks.

Among the most famous places in Nabadwip and Nadia include ISKCON Mayapur headquarters, as well as the place Palashi where the historic battle took place at Plassey. 1859 was the village Govindpur starting point of the indigo riots.

The district is dominated by agriculture. Railway and road connection from Kolkata to Bangladesh through the district Nadia.
