Nain, Iran

Nain, also: Na'in (Persian نایین ← ) is an oasis city in central Iran. The city has about 26,500 inhabitants and is located in the inner- Iranian high plateau at an altitude of 1,545 m in the province of Isfahan. It is believed that Na'in was founded in the Sassanid era.

The city is a center for the manufacture of carpets and famous for the thence derived Na'in rugs. It lies on the desert road between Kashan and Yazd where are coaches. Na'in was formerly known for its finely woven cloaks, called abaya.

Attractions

  • The bazaar of Na'in: Today, hardly more trading takes place. In earlier times it was a far nationally known address for bazaaris and customers. The cone- shaped buildings on the bazaar entrance are water storage, which are cooled by wind towers that stand by.
  • In the Masjed -e Jom'e (Friday Mosque) is the oldest of all mosques still regularly visited the Persian world. The mosque is Sunni and therefore has only one minaret.
