Band History

The beginnings (1991-1996)

At its inception in 1991, the Carinthian band named after " Naked Lunch ", a novel by William S. Burroughs. The founding members were Oliver Welter, Peter Hornbogner and Georg Timber- Trattnig. The first demos quickly led to a record deal with the German indie label Big Store Records, which in 1991 the 6 -track mini- LP " Naked" and a year later the debut album " balm " published. Then Trattnig got out to take care of his literary ambitions and has been replaced by Herwig Zamernik by Disharmonic Orchestra. Zamernik and Welter are still the core of the band.

After this initial success, the band was trying to gain a foothold internationally, but despite some showcases for major record companies it took up to a commitment to Mercury Records a few years.

Superstardom (1997-2000)

After Naked Lunch had made it to a major label, they recorded their second album to reach the longed-for in the title Superstardom awareness. The recordings took place in Weilheim, New York City and San Francisco. For the blended by renowned sound engineer and music producer Alan Moulder single " Tambourine " they recorded a video in Brazil and ravaged there a stage. In London, where some members were drawn, they were later arrested. The hoped-for success, however, did.

Shortly thereafter, keyboardist Stefan Deisenberger got in, and 1999 with the support of Olaf OPAL the album "Love Junkies " published. Although the single " Closed Today" was a small international hit, but the album did not sell particularly well. Then Naked Lunch changed their record label and released " Love Junkies " again with Virgin Records. However, because the album flopped even there, the new record contract was terminated again.

Break and return (since 2001)

After the volatile events around the two releases of " Love Junkies " is Naked Lunch took a break. Welter had to return to his hometown and lived half a year out on the road and out of his car. In retrospect, he characterized it as one of the worst in his life. Maybe Welter showed only the death of his former bandmates Trattnig, how important life is a result of his alcoholism in 2000, from which the song "King George " is.

Then Naked Lunch returned to the studio to record another plate. With " Songs for the Exhausted " old indie rock concepts have been dropped, to try new ways of working, which included intensive work with computers. " Songs for the Exhausted " was admitted to Zamerniks own studio, the " Fuzzroom " in Klagenfurt in the course of a year. Before the recordings, however, drummer and founding member Peter " Bogs " Hornbogner left the band. He was later replaced by Thorsten Thonhauser. Most of the drum tracks on the album were played or programmed, however, either by session musicians. Shortly before the end of the recordings burned down the studio.

After the album was finished, the band met with new problems. They found no record company wanted to release " Songs for the Exhausted ". The album was generally considered to be sad, depressed and overall uncommercial. First published in 2004, the Universal sublabel Motor Music Album, which was met with mostly positive reviews and also sold surprisingly well.

As a result, Naked Lunch, published in 2005, the EP "Stay" and contributed with their music in the film " curfew ", a project of his friend, filmmaker Thomas Woschitz in which to live music the band was filmed. In addition Zamernik published after the reconstruction of his studio a solo album under the name Fuzzman on Living Records.

Like its predecessor, " Songs for the Exhausted " was released in the new, more optimistic album "This Atom Heart of Ours " in January 2007 after a long break and was similarly praised recorded (eg by an award as Album of the Week at Plattentests.de or a fourth Place of favorite albums of the Spex editorial in the month of January). It is after the departure of Thonhauser the first release with new drummer Alex Jezdinsky, who previously played with the band Angelika Express. For some time it was not clear whether Jezdinsky is a full member, because he was to be seen either on the promotional photos for the new album still in the video of the new single "Military of the Heart ".

In collaboration with the writer and director Bernd Liepold - Mosser Naked Lunch 2011 developed the music for a production of Franz Kafka's America ( The Man Who Disappeared ). The band was the musical director of production at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. The eponymous album was released in an edition of 2000 pieces.

In February 2013, the studio album All Is Fever appeared.
