Nakhon Suvarnabhumi Province

Nakhon Suvarnabhumi ( Thai นคร สุวรรณ ภูม, pronunciation: [ ná.k ʰ ʰ u ː m on sù.wan.ná.p ], city of the golden land ) is the name of a proposed new province in central Thailand, east of the capital Bangkok. The area extends around the new Suvarnabhumi Airport.

In order to form the new province, Khet Lat Krabang and Prawet from Bangkok and Bang Sao Thong and Bang Phli to be moved out of the province of Samut Prakan. The province would have an area of 521 square kilometers with approximately 462,000 inhabitants.

The announcement of plans was in October 2005, followed by a legislative proposal approved by the Cabinet in June 2006. Under this proposal, the province would be conducted during the first four years by a governor who would be appointed by the Ministry of Interior. Furthermore, there is the establishment of a 30-member Control headed by the Prime Minister of Thailand. Next is planned to make Nakhon Suvarnbhumi to a special economic zone, with an elected governor as is the case in Bangkok.

The project has been shelved since the military coup of 2006. Bangkok authorities and parts of the affected population are the plans critically.
