The Namibia Breweries Limited ( NBL ) is a brewery in Windhoek in Namibia.

History and Background

The brewery was founded in 1920 by Carl List and Hermann Ohlthaver as West Brewery (SWB ). In 1967, joined the Hansa brewery in Swakopmund from the SC. Under the German brewmaster Günther Schulz, who was responsible for the production from 1966 to 1978, the brewery has been modernized and there were already won international awards in the 1970s.

After Namibia's independence in the West Brewery on 21 March 1990 received its current name.

Since 1999, there has been cooperation with the brewery Beck & Co. of Bremen. 2003 resulted from a collaboration with Heineken and Diageo, the sale of 28.9 percent of the now listed on the Namibia Stock Exchange NBL to these two companies. The Ohlthaver & List Group still owns a 51 per cent majority of the society.

The associated Hansa brewery in Swakopmund was closed in October 2005.

Production, products and markets

The NBL bride accordance with the provisions of the German purity law and was already at the first examination of the Windhoek camp awards the DLG.

Currently, about 60 percent of its production to South Africa and 23 other countries are exported worldwide. The NBL is located since 2010 on an international expansion strategy with the aim to include within 15 months of the top 15 beers in the world. As the newest country marketing in Cameroon was recorded on 17 February 2010 and the UK on 19 May 2010. After Tanzania also Windhoek Draught is exported since the beginning of March 2014.

The NBL won numerous awards worldwide, in addition to managing the company, especially for the Namibian beers.
