Nansen Refugee Award

The Nansen Refugee Award was created in 1954 to honor individuals or organizations that have made ​​outstanding contributions to the cause of refugees.

The award bears the name of the Norwegian polar explorer and the first High Commissioner for Refugees, Fridtjof Nansen and is endowed in 1979 with $ 100,000 for a refugee project of the winners can choose freely. The prize is awarded by the Nansen Refugee Award Committee, which is chaired by the High Commissioner for Refugees United Nations.
