Narciso Bernardo

Narciso " Ciso " C. Bernardo ( born July 27, 1937 in Manila, † December 23, 2008 ) was a Filipino basketball player and coach as well as politicians.

Biography

Bernardo began his career as a basketball player during the time of the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association ( MICAA ) in the team of AC Mariwasa and counted during his playing days as one of the top scorer and was awarded several honors and awards.

With the Summer Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 he was appointed to the Philippine national basketball team. At the local basketball competitions, the team reached the 11th place in the final placement.

As a member of the national team, he also won the gold medal at the 1967 Asian Cup Basketball in Taipei in the final against the team of the Republic of China.

Ciso Bernardo was appointed to the Olympic team again in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, playing at the local basketball tournament against Japan at the 13th place, which the Philippines with 82:73 could decide for themselves.

After his playing time player, he was a basketball coach and worked as such in 1984 Coach of the team " Crispa Redmanizers " at winning the championship of the Philippine Basketball Association ( PBA).

For his merits as a player in the 1960s, he was elected in January 1998 to one of the five best players of all time in the PBA ( All- Time Mythical Five of Philippine basketball).

He was also politically active and some time councilor ( Councillor ) of Mandaluyong City Metro Manila in the center. After a stroke, he was bedridden since 2002.
