National Anthem of the Soviet Union
The State Anthem of Soviet Union (Russian Гимн Советского Союза ) was introduced by Joseph Stalin on January 1, 1944 successor to the International previously used as an anthem. The lyrics were written by Sergey Mikhalkov and Gabriel El- Registan, the music of Alexander Alexandrov.
Formation background
Already in the 1930s was The International of the song from the Fatherland ( Широка страна моя родная ) of IO Dunajewski and WI Lebedev Kumach ( German paraphrase of Erich Weinert ) from the movie The Circus ( Цирк, 1936, directed by Grigori Vasilyevich Alexandrov ) replaced been, which was considered " unofficial anthem " of the Soviet Union.
The present here original text, which in the second stanza contained a paean to Stalin, was rewritten in 1977 by the author Mikhalkov, where the verses were rearranged. In the present form, then the anthem was in use until the year 1991. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the emergence of the Russian Federation was since 1990/91, first the Patriotic song as an anthem in Russia before the anthem of the Russian Federation was introduced with the old melody of the Soviet anthem in 2001. Sergei Mikhalkov again wrote the text, this time about how to be protected by God own country.
Ban
The performance of communist songs is, depending on the context in Hungary forbidden (since 1994 ), Latvia and Lithuania ( since 2008). Such a prohibition, which, inter alia, the use of communist symbols with two years' imprisonment punished existed since 2009 in Poland, but with the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal of 19 July 2011, it was declared unconstitutional and considered by the void ab initio.

References in other songs
- The song Go West of the Village People, later re-recorded by the Pet Shop Boys, takes strong bonds with the melody of the anthem ( Sample: Hymn → Go West / i?). The song " Go West", in turn, strongly based on the famous Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel and allows conjecture whether the anthem of the Sowjetuinion also based on Pachelbel's Canon.
