Go West (song)
"Go West" is a title of U.S. disco group Village People from 1979. The single was not a big commercial success, but became more popular in the cover version of the Pet Shop Boys. Today, the melody is also popular as football song, especially in England and Germany.
Song
The title of the song refers to the slogan "Go West, young man " of American Manifest Destiny doctrine, but is seen as a glorification of San Francisco as the target of the gay liberation movement.
The song is based on the melody and harmony of the national anthem of the Soviet Union and Russia. The chord progression is based is also included in Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D.
Cover version of the Pet Shop Boys
On 30 August 1993, the Pet Shop Boys publish a revised version of Dance, which also contained an additional stanza. Unlike the original, this version was, as recorded most of the songs of the Pet Shop Boys, mainly with electronic instruments ( synthesizers, computers, etc. ).

J.B.O. parodied the song in 1997 under the name "A Celebration ". The Excrementory Grindfuckers they covered it with the name " music make other" and wrote this, just like JBO, a completely new text. The striking main riff is also in the play " What " of the band Emscherkurve 77 use.
