Naviglio Martesana

The Naviglio della Martesana ( often Naviglio Martesana and in the past Naviglio Piccolo ) is an historical Naviglio (channel), which connects Milan with the river Adda. The Adda draws its water from Lake Como.

The Naviglio Martesana is 9 to 18 feet wide, up to 3 meters deep and 38 kilometers long.

In his way he crosses including the communities Gorgonzola and Cernusco sul Naviglio, near Milan, he then disappears beneath the city.

Due to the historic transportation routes Naviglio della Martesana Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese Milan was connected with the rivers Adda and Ticino, about this with the Italian lakes and the Adriatic.
