Nazanin Boniadi

Nazanin Boniadi ( May 22nd 1982 in Tehran, Iran) is a British actress of Iranian descent who currently lives and works in the United States.

Life

Boniadi was born in the Iranian capital Tehran. Her parents moved with her to London when she was still a baby. As a young girl she played violin and danced ballet.

After completing school, she moved to the United States where she obtained a Bachelor (Honours ) in Biology from the University of California, Irvine (UCI ). At UCI, she won the Chang Pin- Chun Undergraduate Research Award for molecular biology research related to cancer treatments and heart transplants. She was also assistant editor of the medical student newspaper at UCI, the MedTimes.

Boniadi had from November 2004 to January 2005 a relationship with Tom Cruise, which was strongly influenced by Cruises' faith community, the Church of Scientology. In 2010 she decided to leave Scientology after it has been treated unfairly by its own account of several leading members. In 2012 she took together with other former Scientologists on a rap song that brought criticism of Scientology expressed.

Career

In 2006, Boniadi decided to end the medical career and began acting. Her first major role was that of Leyla Mir on the soap opera General Hospital, as well as the spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift. Thus she became the first Iranian-born actress with an American soap opera Treaty. For this role she was nominated for a 2008 NAACP Image Award.

Boniadi also had supporting roles in several major Hollywood productions such as The Charlie Wilson's War, Iron Man, and 72 hours - The Next Three Days. From February 2011 she took over the role of Nora in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, in which she has several episodes a relationship with Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris). In November 2011, she appeared together with George Clooney in a commercial for Nespresso.

In the third season of the award -winning U.S. series Homeland she takes on the role of Fara Sherazi.
