Nègrepelisse

Nègrepelisse is a commune with 5246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Tarn -et- Garonne in the Midi-Pyrénées region; it is the administrative center of the canton Nègrepelisse and is located in the district of Montauban.

Geography

The city lies on the southern bank of the river Aveyron about 15 kilometers northeast of Montauban.

History

The Château de Nègrepelisse was completed in 1074 under construction. The Bastide Nègrepelisse Latinized, Nigra Pelliciacum, was founded in the late 13th century. Adopted in 1285 Philip III. the Constitutive Act. The place has hosted early Calvinists. From 10 to 11 June 1622 the battle and the massacre of Nègrepelisse took place when King Louis XIII. 800 city residents, Huguenots, the entire male population of the city, put to death.
